Hey Folks, greetings from Giduwagi ('soil that was placed here by a higher power') in so-called North Carolina in the so-called United States (Southern Appalachia, WNC). This is Cherokee country up here. I have a 9-year permaculture project with a mature 30 year-old heirloom apple orchard that I am diversifying greatly. 1000 species on 27 acres connected to 18,000 acres of National Forest. A seedbank with 2000 heirloom Southern vegetable & herb varieties. 13 springs and three branches (what we call small 'creeks'), so lots of water, rare plants, and a 5000 year-old archaeological sacred site. I am a PhD ethnobotanist with over 25 years of agroecology and permaculture experience. I run a non-profit dedicated to biocultural conservation and climate change resilience called Appalachian Institute for Mountain Studies (AIMS--linked below) and also teach ecological anthropology, ethnobotany, and Cherokee studies at a local university and am in the process of starting a nursery and permaculture consulting business (in progress). Internship for the season leading to potential collaborations, partnerships, etc. 25 hours of work a week plus room and board. Looking for individuals with at least 1 season of gardening experience. Cheers :)
