A few days ago someone visiting absent mindedly left the front gate open and I have livestock roaming free range. A pony and calf got out and were headed for the highway until my neighbor called and several of them got out to help me catch them. Had the neighborhood dogs not started chasing them, and my herd dog intervened as they were partially headed back in the right direction, it would have been a real fiasco. I need a backup plan in place as I do not have hours at a time to be chasing errant livestock. Would a cattle crossing guard work? And if so, does anyone have plans on size pipe, etc., needed to build one? Any advice is appreciated.
