This reminds me of a film documentary that I saw called 'Alone in the Wilderness' about a guy who moves to the wilds of Alaska and basically builds a house, grows some food and hunts for a year with minimal support in the form of a bloke delivering some food to him once in a while. Apparently the bloke lived like that for something like 30 years until he felt, at the age of 86, that he was too old to continue. Well worth looking up - there's a shorter version (in 2 parts) on Youtube. Might be able to download and/or buy the full version somewhere.
