What I like about homegrown lettuce is that you can just keep picking off the plants for a whole season. I have difficulty with germination though and feel like much of the seed goes to waste.
I grew chinese stem lettuce for the first time this year from transplants someone else started. I was pleased that I got two crops out of them. Cut the stems to the ground, cooked them, and the plants grew new stems.
Weeds are just plants with enough surplus will to live to withstand normal levels of gardening!--Alexandra Petri
