I'm thinking about a hedgerow containing blackthorn, medlar (both fruits need frost to be edible, I think), wild roses, elder, rowan... The last one is already growing fine in my garden, the roses should also be no problem, there are lots in this area - but I have no idea how blackthorn and medlar behave in the icelandic climate. I saw blooming elder in a walled garden in Reykjavik... but Downtown Reykjavik is not the open land.
Does anyone know how those plants get along with strong winds (out of every direction at the same time
) and harsh frosts from end of August until April or May? The summers here (not so far away from Borgarnes) seem to be nice enough from what I've heard, the last one surely was.
