I currently have a tern c7 folding bike that has been converted to an ebike.

I'm seriously considering taking the ebike kit off it to homebrew one of these electric three wheel trailers. Although it'll look closer to these as I'd use an old aluminium ladder as the frame. I would stick with the 3 wheel design and I have most of the parts I need to build it. By far the most complicated part will be making the overrun brake system work well.

My main concern is should I? Or should I buy a cargo bike?

For:
I've got the parts,
I've got the skills (I finished the electric conversion of the tern, I have welded up a motorcycle trailer before, I studied electronics at university),
Load capacity will be greater,
Cheaper.

Against
It's the unknown, I've towed different types of trailer before but only with a car.
It's a legal grey area in the UK. I don't think it's defined as illegal here but carla don't sell them here, which makes me cautious.

So very expensive expert built (it would take out half my savings) vs somewhat risky homebuild.
