I only ask because it is coming up to Christmas and I want to get it as a present for a gardner.

My mum has won quite a few competitions for flower gardening and in the end they made her a judge to give other people a chance! She used to make very formal gardens but has recently become more interested in the vegetable side of things. She has just oved to Australia from the UK and bought a home so she has a blank canvas to work with and she is very interested in wicking beds, water conservation and other things that are completely new to her. Hugelkultur is also something that she would like to read up on before making a decision.

She is not such a fan of computers so forums and YouTube are not the best way for her to learn, a book on gardening she will like!

I would like to get her a few books so if you have any other recommendations please let me know, (though anything with an unkempt jungle on the front cover would probably send her into shock)

Thanks

I missed that!

Thanks.

That's a lot of books (but I have five of them already).

I saw the Gaia's Garden book on Amazon, it keeps popping up because I once bought a book on gardening or something vaguely related. It looks very busy! The kind of thing a formal gardener would be put off by, same with the liquid gold and humanuer books. Google did find that there was a bit about Hugelkultur in the Gaia's Garden book so that might be the best bet.

I also came across square foot gardening on YouTube, not sure I can work out what the attraction is, we have only ever had small plots to grow veggies on so it looks pretty normal to me.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, any recommendations?

I would be happy to share thoughts and opinions with you on a few books that I have found informative for me.

The Herb & Spice Companion by Marcus Webb/Richard Craze

The Gardeners A - Z Guide to Growing Organic Food by Tanya L.K. Denckla

Organic Gardening by Christine & Michael Lavelle

The Gardeners Handbook by Peter McHoy

I hope this helps you and your Mum
