Hi all.
I have insomnia, and it generally sucks. But, occasionally it has its perks.
Last night after tossing and turning and not being able to shut my brain down from designing things it's already designed, or beating myself up about things that I haven't done yet, or, or, or.... ad infinitum... I got up, put warm clothes on, and went for a walk.
I do some breathing exercises and generally try to reset my brain while on these middle-of-the-night wanders. I was doing so when I saw some strange lighting in the sky that I had thought up to that point was the town's
lights being reflected off of some clouds, but I realized that the sky was totally clear, and was lit by stars and that what I was seeing was the Northern Lights dancing above the front range of the Rocky Mountains to the North East and spanning a considerable area above me.
The display was quite pleasant but the light pollution made it difficult to appreciate it as much as I'd have liked. I, unfortunately, also didn't have my glasses to make it more clear, but I was not going to go home to get them. The moment had to be appreciated in the NOW.
I walked to the high school which is on the edge of town, and walked to the middle of the soccer fields, so that I could eliminate more of the town's light pollution, and was gifted by a series of great pulses and shimmering sheets of greenish light, and was witness to a shooting star.
When I got home I sent a text to a friend who might be awake at 3:30 am. She and I had witnessed a similar display with many more shooting stars one evening, and she had asked me to let her know if I saw some again.
Seeing all of the great light display, plus all the fresh air allowed me to reset and feel some gratitude for being where I am, and I was able, with some more work, to get back to sleep.
I thought at the time that it would have been nice to share the
experience with someone. So, I figured, why not share it here?
Blessings on your day.
