I'm about to plant a bunch of small fruit trees, most of them citrus, this slow growing but figs and a japanese raisin tree and strawberry guava too.
What usefull edible plants could I grow there without having to hoe or without too much competition.
I planted strawberries and various herbs, but you only need that much herbs. I like to mulch with woodchips around the trees to avoid having weeds growing and competing with the trees (especially the grass). Which annual could be planted there, some which are not too high?

How about day lilies? They are edible and in China they have a way of salting and drying them which makes a really delicious flavor in soups and stir-fries. Livestock also happily consume them, and they thrive in shade. There is also a pretty good market for them so you could dig the roots and sell them if you get an excess, or trade them with other gardeners for other plants you want.

But why do you wear your googles indoors? While holding this tiny ad?
