leaf, but it's recommended we dye outside as some people react poorly to the acid in the leaf. But all dyeing really wants to be done with good airflow.
I've had a good green from fennel tops, but so long ago that I've forgotten how I did it - alum/cream of tartar mordant for sure, maybe with either copper or iron as an afterbath.
