BSF compost looks too wet

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Greetings!  I am looking forward to having some folks with whom I can talk about BFS composting!  I have a small system which I use primarily for food scraps from our home and our restaurant.  Right now they are crazy happy, it smells rather nice, but it looks wet, kind of muddy.  I do have a drain, so I don't think moisture is pooling.  I will try to attach a photo.  Does anyone know if this is a problem or not?  Should I change something?

Amanda, welcome to the forum.

I have not raised black soldier fly larvae though I have read a lot of threads about them.

From what I understand the BSF larvae like moist conditions not wet.

Maybe adding some dry food scraps or something like sawdust might help.

I am hoping that some experts will chime in with suggestions.

I had a black soldier fly bin looking like that. Although the grubs are happy, it can be quite gross to harvest them in sticky goo. I remove both ends of the #10 can and put a roll of cardboard pieces in there. The larvae would crawl into the crevices and wipe themselves clean. Mixing some dry materials will help too.
