Lets keep in mind that this pond was dug one day prior to the photo. That's one rain which filled it. Seems like working with nature gave us a benefit. We also re-located 2 night snakes from the area, and put them in the rock crevices in the stakeholders garden.
This was an excellent experience. Wait till you all see the hugelkulture that we made!

This was in harmony grove!! It was amazing! I wasn't there for the building of the pond, but i attended the convergence! Felt lucky to have The Duke spreading some knowledge!! We got one inch of rain and that filled the pond pretty full! Another inch would have had it filling the swale and maybe going to the lower pond! Good times!!!

Both. There was a bit of a natural depression, so we dug that out and used the spoil to build up the lower areas to fill the dam. It was more dam building than digging a bowl.
Jacob Hatch was the local contractor that did the earthworks. He specializes in ponds, aquatic systems, and riparian landscapes. I would highly recommend him. He knows his sh*t.

The hooves of pig feet, sepp style, was emulated w the excavator bucket to provide compaction. However we had to remove all organic matter from the area first, including roots. Roots are an evil enemy of natural pond/dam sealing.
