The Best Tree Planting Helper

We are still patiently waiting for spring to arrive so we can start planting our food forest, but the extra time does have its benefits.

I can still vividly remember the difficulty in digging in large amounts of trees and shrubs as well as how the holes kept getting slightly smaller as we ran out of steam, so 3 hours in the shop and now we have our tree digging helper...



I saw versions of this online, but even the inexpensive ones were nearly $300.00 plus shipping, so a few pieces of steel later...



The rear angle iron transfers the load into the whole bucket instead of just the cutting edge and the chain simply holds it in place...




Now I am "really" looking forward to the arrival of our trees. Yeahhhh

Quick notes, it goes on and off in about 1 minute. Just slide it on the front of the bucket, loop over the chain, and tighten the binder.

And yes, I did try it out already. It works effortlessly and leaves a nice 18" or so hole in the ground.

The diamond plate seems to cause the dirt to release from the bucket nicely and I was able to make quick work of a ditch by "rooting" the bucket like a pig would use its nose.

I am dreaming up additional uses for this already, including some nice pocket ponds

Way to go Dale! Great looking tool that is definitely a great return on "your back" investment. Bet the trees will even do better because you can get the whole order in the ground ASAP rather than having to wait until you feel like it.
