Non toxic... that means they're edible, right?

I think the photos are a little doctored, but they obviously are glowing. I heard of a newly discovered species of illuminating fungi discovered somewhere in pacific east Asia. The article is somewhere in science daily (forgot the link) but the illumination was said to be so bright that a single specimen would light up a very dark room. At the time I read the article I was thinking to myself how I was hoping someone would imprint the spore and commercialize it.

Last summer my mom found a HUGE flush of jack o lantern mushrooms growing on a stump in the woods beside the road. She picked some just because they were so beautiful (like giant orange chanterelles) and wanted to ID them and then we found out they are BIOLUMINESCENT! ...but only when alive. We went back at night to check them out and boy was it cool. They didn't glow brightly like the ones in that picture, though... and they glowed blue, not green. (FYI they are toxic.)

Just FYI, both Panellus stipticus (the mushroom in the kit) and Omphalotus spp. (jack-o-lanterns) mentioned above, are poisonous. Not usually fatal, but the experience will make you wonder......

You can make your own kit and sell others since this species has been isolated. The coolest strain of these jack-o-lantern mushrooms is Omphalotus olearius Olive. It glows a bluish-green. Perfect for a Halloween celebration!
