Actually, I find that frightening.

The international financial institutes would love to see the entire world turn "cashless".
That way, they will realize a small percentage of every transaction.
Everything you 'spend' will become a part of their records, (and the government's records).

An insidious plot to gain complete control over everybody.

It's not mysterious that they have chosen one of the world's poorest nations to try their pilot program.
With the amount of poverty in Nigeria, it's almost 'cashless' already.

I'm certain that the Nigerian government anxiously awaits the program:
Every member of the many insurgency parties will be easy to pick out by their 'spending' habits.
"Big Brother" will be watching everybody much more efficiently now.

Plus, without cash, there is no possibility to escape sales tax/VAT. In Sweden, three of the four main banks are changing most of their branches to be cashless. However, the fourth is not, and everyone who wants to continue using cash are turning to it.

Here in Slovakia cash is still very much used, though more and more smalled places have credit card terminals, and now many debit cards have RFIDs for "quick payment". Slovakia falls second behind Greece in the list of EU countries with VAT evasion. Thanks be to God, the government hasn't made much headway in changing that either.

Yeah. The VAT issue makes sense for the government.

I lived off & on for a few years in a country with 20% VAT.
If I was making a large purchase in a small shop, I would say "I don't need a receipt."
That automatically gave me a 20-30% discount in most cases.

Works the same way here in many places.
