I used to correct people who wrote "duck tape."
Turns out, that is the older form of the term. I was embarrassed when I learned that.
It was invented to keep water out of ammunition boxes; "duck" might have mean "waterproof," or might have referred to the woven cloth reinforcement.
I still say, and write, "duct tape."
Flue tape is nice stuff!
