I am totally new to work with ponds...
As I have the right place and the need, I do a
new water-tank...
We have almost finished to remove the earth at the bottom (down to the rock).
I already have a tank, that I use only for watering. I have no pump because it is in a elevated place, so I gravity
water. (my place is steep!)
I have planned to harvest water in this 2nd tank (much lower location) + fill it with the big tank when rain-water is over, so that I keep this tank evenly full all the time.
I had a place I was going to use for filling with stones+dirt (this place is also a path). I converted the wall + rubble
project into a water harvest project.
It will be around 50-60m3. The size is about 10x20 feet.
This place is almost in the ravine, with rock at the bottom and 3 stone walls around.
So I just want build the 4th wall and put cement for waterproofing.
1st question:
Am I right that hydraulic lime will "rot" with water, and that cement is better adapted?
----------------------------------------
So I dream about frogs, and ducks. And fish if possible!
This is near my critters place, and still at higher elevation than most of my
trees.
So, I thought I could put ducks, and water the trees with this nutrients-rich water...
2nd question:
How is it possible to water without clogging the watering pipes? I have just realized that is is made for clean water... I even have a filter on the pipe...
Do I need a different / parallel system?
---------------------------------------
3rd question:
What plants with no roots can I put in the water?
I mean that duck food would be great...
And maintaining good quality water.
remark: This is a tank, not a
pond, so no earth there.
I have planned to shade the
pond (indirect sun light), and my climate is sub-tropical dry.
I already have some water lily in a
bucket (no way they can invade here!)
--------------------------------------
4th question:
Are some edible fish possible there?
I have no idea how they can
feed themselves in such a tank and I will have to do for them.
I am ready to feed them only if I do not have to buy the food.
There are questions for every type of knowledge, thanks for helping or give me some clues for a start!
