When it came to wiring up our house, we hit the problem that the only decent sockets we could get were designed to be fitted into the wall, flush with the surface. And our walls weren't really suitable for that, so we had to make some escutcheons so the flush-fit sockets could be surface mounted.

This one is for an outdoor socket. It's under a canopy, so it's not likely to get wet, but we thought it would be more appropriate to make it a bit more box-like to shield the sockets a bit. This is the view from underneath. There's a hole and a slot at the top of the box for the cable to go through.

Here's the view from the front.

And from the back again with all the gubbins in place. We had to make sure there was enough room all those bits that stick out.

And the view from the front again - it should all sit nice and flush.

Here it is mounted on the wall, with the wiring in place.

And with the cover fitted.

This is one we made for indoors.

And this is a special one my other half made for all his bits and bobs by his computer.
