Winter mushroom hunt (Flammulina velutipes)

So far we had a really warm winter here in central Europe with temperatures below freezing only at night which is amazing for hunting wild Enoki mushrooms.

The best spots around here are rivers with willow growing along the banks. They especially seem to love stumps ~2-7 years after cutting

Most interesting about them is their appearance during winter months, when almost all the other mushrooms have stopped producing fruiting bodies.

Today I found almost 2kg in about 2 hours

Congratulations on your find! Are you going to try to culture some of them, or are they all for the dinner table?

I've already transferred mycelium from the two best spots I found today on sterile substrates. They both produced perfectly fresh caps with a size up to 8cm, one on willow, one on beech.
Especially the ones from the beech stump are interesting, because until now the Enoki I grew on beech all only gave really small fruiting bodies. This strain should do much better
