I have stone walled raised beds to either side of my front entrance that I would like some ideas for. They currently contain
deer trimmed rhododendrons/azaleas, a couple of short pine shrubs of some kind, and what I think is ground nut climbing up the three bushes on one side. I'd like to rip out these shrubs, move the ground nut (they smell awful to me), and start over. Low bush blueberries seems like an obvious possibility since I think they like the same soil as the pine/rhododendrons. They do seem to have done fairly well there bit thanks to the annual deer buffet all the lushness was against the house! These beds get full sun from the south west. Other ideas I have include espaliers or maybe grapes on short trellises? The spacing between the windows is only about two feet so there isn't lot of useable vertical space, since I don't want to block the windows I'm looking for fairly low growing ideas, 2 - 3 feet. I'm in zone 4b so that's a limiting factor too. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
