Hello,

I haven't really used this site much, but I have checked out some threads before for help on certain things on occasion.

I wanted to give the forum users a heads-up. There's a blog on Tumblr that appears to be 100% repostings of forum posts. It's at: permaculture-news.tumblr.com . It doesn't look like folks on this site are really aware of it. It's pretty creepy, if you ask me. If not unethical. If it was select things from the forums, like actual news as the name suggests, I probably wouldn't have noticed. But everything goes up there, including the more personal posts.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know. Cheers.

May not be a bad thing. They seem to be very "pro-Paul." The Duke is listed above the Crown Prince.

I'm confused are we saying there is a blog that consists of repostings of the posting here ? ..... er why ?
Does Paul get credit for this ?
Does it share the advertising ?
I think its a bit cheeky frankly and would be interested in what Paul thinks of this

It doesn't seem like a blog more like.... permaculture aggregation? I don't see any ads so no harm no foul, I guess. Seems more like a permaculture echo chamber.

A news aggregate site is okay - but they would grab a paragraph, feed that and then provide a link to the source.

Are they limiting it to a paragraph?

The link is not to the source, but to a link-abbreviator.

I suspect that they mean well, but it would be good for them to make a couple of slight modifications. Hell, with the modifications, I wouldn't mind giving a shout out to their site.

Looks like a link the the full first post in each new thread at permies and only permies (that's the creepy part).
There is a link to take the reader to the thread at permies.

There are no ads and I see nothing nefarious at this time.

I'm going to guess that they will be tickled pink to make us happy. I'm just thinking it would be good to limit the first blurb to, say, 500 characters or less - and then have a direct link to the source rather than going through a link shortener.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that this person is a regular here on permies.

Took a look at the "source code" to see if there was a contact - nothing popped out at me. Very mysterious.

I did a "whois" - and that's a MAJOR contributor to the empire. She gets license to do whatever she wants. So - it's good that we have folks spotting this sort of thing. But I think we are fine here.

I confess that is ME..I had told Paul when I set it up over a year ago, but he may have forgotten, since he has so much on his plate these days.

I just have an RSS feed of a few of the forums here in Permies redirecting to Tumblr for back link juice..admittedly I should baby sit it more than I do..since if a post gets deleted here for say spam, it still is remaining on that site..Sadly time keeps me away from baby sitting this.

Sorry if it creeped anyone out..

FYI, when a site makes an RSS feed readily available it is totally 100% OK to use it for content, just so you are aware.

I am using a reposting tool called If This Than That (https://ifttt.com/) , which lets you do lots of very cool things if any one is interested.
