chimney position and performance question

chimney position matter? i see some with the chimney close to the barrel. i would think this would help heat the pipe and aid in flow. i know its wasting more heat but i would think it to be a good trade off. am i thinking correctly? can a chimney suck too much and hinder performance?

as you can tell by my post numbers im a newbie here and to RMHs.

so, can getting the pipes hot allow for more length in the bench? what i mean is, with both the push from riser and pull from heated flue, can you then get away with more mass piping length?
