The creator of the video, Eugenio Monesma writes that

The last century of a millennium brought about a fundamental shift, transforming or eliminating traditional practices based on harnessing nature's resources and leading to the disappearance of forestry trades. In this documentary, filmed in 2011, I attempt to offer a glimpse into those trades, some of which have since vanished.

The video looks at ...

- tree felling
- bark stripping
- shaping the trunk with an axe
- transporting the log using an ox-drawn cart
- saw mills electric and water powered
- sawing by hand
- hauling logs to the road by mule
- transporting logs by river by making 'rafts'
- making pitch
- charcoal
- huts for the charcoal burners to live in whilst living in the forest
- collecting pine resin
- harvesting cork from cork oak
- transporting cork using donkeys
- hollowing logs to make watering troughs
- making simple bridges to cross ravines
- making shingles and shingle roofs
- 'human squirrels' to gather pine nuts
- gathering chestnuts
- basket-making
- broom-making
- making juniper oil
- making wooden spoons and forks

The video has been auto-dubbed into English. Please forgive it for that, especially as anything with four legs is labelled 'horse', and concentrate on the beauty and information the video provides.

Brace yourself while corporate america tries to sell us its things. Some day they will chill and use tiny ads.
