Hi there, I’m moving to Maine in the next month or so and work full‑time in construction. I’m looking to rent a room/apartment/cabin outside urban areas and offset part of the rent by contributing 2–3 hours/day (more on weekends).

Skills: vegetable gardening (bed prep, pruning, trellising), baking/cooking, canning/preserving, knitting/sewing, basic woodworking/carpentry, and experience around chickens & cows (feeding, watering, mucking, egg collection, simple milking tasks). I’m dependable, handy with tools, safety‑minded, and happy to help with greenhouse tasks.

Counties of interest: Cumberland, Lincoln, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Waldo, Knox, Hancock (also lower Oxford, Franklin, Somerset).

I'm looking to have my own homestead and teahouse one day, but in the meantime am looking to help out and learn on a farm while saving up money. If you know of anything, let me know! Thanks

Hi Esther,
Welcome to Permies!

While I don't have a need for a farm helper (don't have a farm), I would probably check in with MOFGA. They used to have an apprenticeship program and a journeyman program. Looks like they are restructuring things some... but they do also have a job board. Nothing listed at this time of the year though. https://www.mofga.org/jobs

Still, it might not hurt to reach out and ask if they have any leads on farms looking for help.

Eliminate 95% of the weeds in your lawn by mowing 3 inches or higher. Then plant tiny ads:
