We have all heard the phrase "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" . Honest people are proud to admit they do just that . Scientists on the shoulders of Newton , Einstein , and Galileo . Musicians on the shoulders of Mozart , Woody Guthrie , and Lightning Hopkins . Comedians on the shoulders of Groucho , Carlin , and Richard Pryor . It is a way of humbly admitting that we were influenced by geniuses and tipping our hats to our predecessors .
The internet has given license to a new breed of critter . For instance , the people on reddit who start forums based on whining and complaining about talented people . They have to use pseudonyms . They don't seem to offer constructive alternatives or criticism . They develop personal and petty vendettas against talented folks . Narcissistically assuming others will join their whiney agenda . What a way to waste your day !
The media likes to label groups for marketing purposes . We have heard the labels "The Me Generation" , "Generation X" , etc. applied to us . I have coined the term "The Jerry Springer Generation" . I apply it to those that think that every dysfunctional thought and deed deserves the limelight . I certainly apply the term to those I have witnessed on reddit spending their days criticising good , intelligent , productive people helping the cause and science of permaculture . I peeked over there , I will spend my on-line time here .
I don't want to be a hater of the haters . This is more of a call to the lovers and poets who want to contribute . Hold up and venerate those that are leading the way . If criticism is needed make it constructive and offer constructive alternatives . Be proud to stand on the shoulders of giants . Let's not wallow around in the mud on their boots !

So true.

Here, we can learn skills, and develop tools to improve our lives.
On Reddit, about all we can learn is how to tear down people and their ideas.

As to 'Generation X', it must be realized that the 'X' is actually a Roman numeral - 10.
It represents the tenth generation since our European ancestors first settled here in North America.

Thank you Wayne...I agree...we do stand...or more appropriately, rest...in the arms of our ancestors...

I did not know what a "Reddit" was till last week...thought it was a "computer program" for "Paul Computer Wizard" types...so disappointed to find out it was nothing but a "brain cell muncher" and "black hole" of ever running "whiners and moaners." I went once...I saw little...I see no need to return...
