civil war house wood have any use?

the family is going to bring down an 1860 home,built at the edge of the black swamp. i was wondering if there are any people that re purpose the wood. im going to hate to see it burned up and wasted. any ideas or link to someone that would use it would be appreciated. location NE Indiana.

Yes, one of the companies I consult for actually "repurposes" entire vintage structures (mainly barns) yet we do have a few Japanese Minka farm houses as well. Is this heritage building not in good enough condition to leave and use as it is? Many of these structures at that age are protected (or should be) and a rarity that communities don't want to lose. Many, too have not been maintained and are beyond salvation...

Do you know if it is a timber frame? What condition? Can you post pictures here?

the supports in basement gave way years ago, nd it is sagging and collapsing in the middle. it is no longer safe. i hate to see it come down myself but out of my hands. the member of the family that owns it dont see the importance. in my opinion he should be tarred and feathered. lol if you mean timber ,as in logs with bark on them, yes same as the barn. its an entire farm from that time period. so sad. i cant do pictures because my zoombrowser went south a few weeks ago and cant get pics from camera. the barn is going too, because he is too lazy to toss up 2 sheets of metal. this really pains me to see us loose an entire farm from history. you can pm me your number if you want to talk, sir.

There are plenty of people that would love to us that wood! Those are most likely old growth timbers with very tight grain structure and rot resistance that can't be matched by the quickly grown timbers we mainly see today.
It is often possible to find someone who will take it down for you in exchange for the wood. Alternatively you could take it down yourself and put the wood up for sale on craigslist if you've got the time and ability.
Either way, posting to find interested parties near you on craigslist, sawmillcreek, or lumberjocks.com will likely result in successful repurposing of the material.
