I have to start my tomato plants inside due to the cold spring weather. I've got some nice seedlings now, but how do I tell when they need more soil or feeding? Since I have limited space I don't want to do this earlier than I need to, but I want the plants to grow well so I get a good harvest. Can I feed them with dilute urine for a while?

What sort of growing medium did you start with? I would start my tomato seedlings in a compost mix that could feed them just fine for 6-8 weeks with just water. I did not need any extra "food".

As for how to know if they need more feeding... I'm not an expert, but I would look out for things like discolored leaves (signs of stress or deficiency), withered leaves, lack of any growth over a week or two, and things like that.

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
