Howdy!
I moved to Northern Nevada from New York about 6 years ago. I set out on a journey to find my own plot of land to build, grow, and be closer to the earth - we all know that's a journey. Oh boy, Nevada is a definitely a journey!
I knew that attempting a homestead with permaculture principles would be difficult here in the high desert. Initially, I thought I had it all down, I learned everything I could to get started and in a few years the soil would be viable... Once you have a good footing, Nevada throws a wrench in that plan. I gave up trying and threw money at the land. Can you guess that didn't work out either? Bags of soil, compost, mulch all blew away. I'm convinced Nevada hates life.
In the last few years, I asked a coworker to move in with me. Together we've been trying to rework the land, and we've wound up getting a good foothold again. We also have a likeminded neighbor buy the plot and house next to us and we've been working together to get our lands green-er. This has renewed a good bit of hope for me and so I found myself back here.
Is there anyone else living in Northern Nevada and would like to build a community of likeminded folks looking to green the desert again?
There is a time and season for everything under the sun and it does not matter how slow you move, just that you keep moving.
