So, in my yard there is a mass of shrubbery (picture one). It has a very distinctive three-lobed leaf shape (picture two). There is no extra charge for the abandoned insect carapace (picture three).

The leaves look a bit like some sassafras leaf pictures I've seen, but the plant type seems wrong for what little I know of sassafras. Plus, it seems to grow as an annual weed, whereas I thought sassafras was supposed to be a tree.

Anybody got a notion?

The shed skin looks like cicada sort of.
Mulberries share the "mitten"shape off their leaves with those of the sassafrass, but each have "right handed" and "left handed" leaves that this plant seems to lack. ..

That's it for sure -- ambrosia trifida. Thanks, all. Gentlemen, start your engines and sharpen your mulching knives...

I have a bunch of these giant ragweeds as well. I am growing them out to seed so I can feed them to the chickens.

There is a link here that shows a ragweed pasture made for chickens. I am doing a similar setup with lambs quarters as my main plant.
