I have a thread here https://permies.com/t/231649/Corn-questions-type-storage
explaining this selection of corn.

It has been stored in the freezer (until today) and I've grown out a bit of it....have given it away locally and now would like to clean out the freezer door for other things like our 2026 bean seed.

Would anyone like all or most of it for the cost of shipping within the USA?
I would repackage in paper rather than glass jars to ship.
Most was harvested by us in our friends garden in 2023, some that was in his freezer was from 2020.
It had been grown by our friend for several years in this area...what he grew provided him with cornbread and hominy year round plus some to share.

no guarantees, except to say it has been stored well.
there are maybe two to three pints of seed total🤔

off season I know but time to get it back in circulation.

the corn has been grown in zone 7 for all this time.

Judith gave me some corn seeds last year and I planted a dozen of them. I also grow specialty corns that are bred and selected in regions with very different climates from the Midwest. The seeds from Judith just grow and produce without fuss, despite being planted in less ideal location near two big oak trees.
Here are the gorgeous ears being dried and I will definitely grow more next time.

May, those are beautiful ears of corn!
I'm so happy to see our friends corn carrying on!  I'll share your photo with his kids if that's ok?

I did keep some very small jars of the dark kernels in the freezer and the rest is gone.

I think some of the light colors were what he used for hominy?

Did you have to water it at all?

Please let him know the wonderful seeds are living on! Thank you and your friend for sharing! I do think they are well adapted to the climate and soil of humid mid south. I planted the seeds in mid April and as usual we ad very wet spring. April to June precipitation was about 20 inches. Some of my plants stopped growing in June due to saturated ground and low soil pH. These plants just stayed strong and healthy, maybe because their roots are better at handeling wetness. Summer has been hot with a few pop-up thunderstorms and the corns continued to fill out and mature gradually. I did water in early to mid August so that the plants could mobilize nutrients in the leaves and stalks to the kernels for more wholesome and healthy food. I haven't processed the corn yet but am really looking forward to some homemade tortilla.

I made tacos from mixed heritage corn kernels. The color is blueish from the darker seeds and they taste great. I am not saving this year's seeds for replanting since I only planted a limited number. I plan on growing more next year and try to cross pollinate them better.

that looks delicious!

How did you grind the corn after nixtamizing?
I tried in our corona mill once and made a bog mess.

I always thought I should try to find a food processer at our thrift store for that.

So far I don't have any grinder for milling but I am considering buying an attachment to go with the Kitchenaid processor. I just used a blender and passed the paste through a sieve. The masa was on the wet side but still could be pressed and baked on a hot plate. The tortillas aren't folding well so I made quesadilla this time.
