Lasers instead of herbicides?

Which would you rather?

I came across this article recently. They built a robot that can shoot precision lasers to kill weeds, negating the need for herbicides.

While I think this is overkill and has its own set of problems... if I had to choose between a laser shooting robot and an herbicide spraying tractor attachment... I think I would choose the laser.

This feels like a step forward, maybe? What do you think?

probably overkill, yes....I would choose lasers also though...I think? more likely neither.

For some reason this reminded me of summer jobs in Illinois 'walking beans'.
I guess it was child labor but the only summer jobs while in junior high and high school were walking bean rows with a hoe and detasselling corn.
I suppose those farms 'upgraded' to herbicides years ago for weeding beans and there's no manual labor involved anymore...

I'm trying to imagine the robots 'shooting' buttercup, thistles and cocklebur🤔
