I was introduced to sweet grass today at the MN Arboretum. A woman at the learning center was encouraging children to braid it. Anyone know where I can get sweet grass seeds and/or any good resources to help me learn to weave and braid with it. I am in love with that smell! I would especially love to weave a wreath.
There is a whole book out there called "Braiding Sweetgrass" by a Native American author that not only goes into some detail about growing and working with sweetgrass but uses it and other aspects of natural resource stewardship as examples of the Native ethics of reciprocity and sustainability. Excellent read!
Will spread by rhizomes when planted, so a little goes a long way. Also heavy feeders if you harvest the grass. I haven't harvested it yet, but smells great when it gets really hot out. I also pick sprigs of grass and put it in my pocket.

Just finished reading the Braiding Sweetgrass book. Thank you all so much for the recommendation. She is an amazing storyteller, and now I cannot wait to read more of her books!
