Trying Rocketing for the First Time

My 2-year-old and I built a dry stack rocket stove. I got to a rolling boil in about 10 minutes. We plan to clean our left over kitchen grease to try our hands at old fashion homemade lye soap.

Cameron C. : The Rocket Mass Heater and even the rocket cook stove burn at much higher temps than a metal box wood stove can sustain, therefor
the biggest part of the ash that your Rocket Mass heater will make will be fly ash, very little lye will be found in its ash !

Remember, Lye is a caustic substance, a strong base, and proper protection most be worn and no metal containers or stirring sticks/paddles can be
used !

Cameron Cooley : Dig down to a clean layer of your red clay add some sharp sand a.k.a. builders sand and use that for mortar to make an air tight
Rocket Stove, you want to have a piece of sheet metal like old stove pipe or cut from a #10 vegetable can that is shaped to fit the feed tube opening
and create an air channel UNDER your fuel wood This and dry,dry wood will increase the heat of your combustion zone and speed up the time
it takes to boil water ! Good luck Big AL
