This isn't exactly the answer to the question, but a line in a song I always remember when doing permaculture things:
'see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself'
It was in a song in my youth (1970s) called Garden Party, I don't remember the singer

Makes me homesick for a life I never lived....
Looking up this video I see it was in a movie, never saw it, no clue what it's about, I only know the song, and the pictures it makes in my mind.

The ultimate classic, Jimmy Rodgers "No Hard Times Blues"

I got a barrel of flour Lord I got a bucket of lard
I got a barrel of flour Lord I got a bucket of lard
I ain't got no blues got chickens in my backyard

Got corn in my crib cotton growin' in my patch
I got corn in my crib cotton growin' in my patch
I got that old hen a sittin' waitin' for that old hen to hatch
Yodel lyee-oh hard time blues

[Instrumental]

I'm gonna hitch up my mule and take a holt of my line
I'm gonna hitch up my mule and take a holt of my line
I can't be bothered with all those old hard times

Oh, go ahead and pick one now

[Instrumental]

I'm gonna build me a shanty Lord I'm gonna settle down
I'm gonna build me a shanty Lord I'm gonna settle down
Get me a corn fed mama and Lordy quit a runnin round

Here he comes

[Instrumental]

I can make more money with my pick and plow
I can make more money with my pick and plow
With my one-eyed mule and my good ole Jersey cow

Yodel lyee-oh hard time blues...

You know you’re an elementary school teacher when the song you pick is... “Pick a Bale of Cotton” by Raffi

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl9bzINcXi8

That’s not my ‘favorite’ but it’s the first that comes to mind.

The other two that come to mind are ‘Fields of Gold’ which I prefer the version by Eva Cassidy

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9UVjjcOUJLE

And Joni Mitchell’s ‘Big Yellow Taxi’

Some people say a man is made outta mud
A poor man's made outta muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
A mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong

You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded 16 tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said, "Well, a-bless my soul"

You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

I was born one mornin', it was drizzlin' rain
Fightin' and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake by an ol' mama lion
Can't no high toned woman make me walk the line

You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

If you see me comin', better step aside
A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don't get you
Then the left one will

You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

hmm. As it was a good dozen or so years ago, it took me a while to choose one, the original one, which I associate with moving to a new place. I think this honor will go to the reggae of the Polish band vavamuffin- raspberry mabma. I remember that I spent the first days in the new yard with this note in my headphones. I danced, sang and thought about how he would arrange the yard so that I could live well there. And we did it! : D

Best day ever song by Mac Miller is my favorite song. Its always reminds me of homesteading. This song  brings it all back for me. Mac Miller is a great artist and his songs encourage youngsters. I have also a kid poster by Mac Miller. That's always on the wall in my room.
