About 5 weeks ago I stopped using my original
humanure compost pile at our rural vacant property. My idea was to stockpile two or three weeks worth of pails of compostables so that the new pile at our house would have a decent mass to start with, it being winter here and not the best time to start composting. Two to three weeks stretched to five and I have had to scrounge for pails twice to get to today.
Today I built the new frame, very basic four
pallets wired together, put down the biologic sponge and dumped the thirteen pails I have amassed over the five weeks plus a full five gallon kitchen compost pail. If the weather hadn't been so cold I would have taken the pails down one at a time over the
course of a few days and staged them in the backyard.
Fourteen in one go wasn't fun, either on the stairs or at the bin for space but everything went well and I am glad to have it at the house now. I could have started at the house this summer but I chose the rural property to see if the system is really odourless. It is so here I am with a short walk to my new compost pile in my back
yard.
