Where to find Hop Seeds

Hi folks, I'm looking to start hops in a greenhouse so that I can have plants to take starts from. I need recommendations on where to buy good seed. Please advise?! Thanks

My research tells me that hops is another one of those plants that "the experts" all say has to be propagated from rhizomes, because the seeds supposedly don't reliably come true. However this is something that's only sort of roughly true for many of the plants it is said about, and often it depends on just exactly what you are using the plants and their produce for. It's very much the case that the hops rhizomes I've seen for sale are very expensive, not practical for bulk plantings unless one is very rich.

Having said all that, the only place I've noticed hops seed for sale is on eBay. I think I have some incoming as part of a larger order I made, because all I want is to grow some vines to shade a structure. I don't really care if I precisely reproduce one of the named brewing varieties.

Dan, I hear that too. I'd like to try seeds still, while also doing the rhizome thing. Any suggestions from others on this>?

Do you want hops for beer making or as a food? It has some medicinal properties.
For the first you'd better take rhizomes because there guarantied too be the variety you want.
The second use has no preference on starting material but hop shoots are mostly obtained from old rhizomes of brewer variety's.
If you want hops just as a ornamental than pic what you wish.
Hops are native where I live and are some times annoying because they intertwine with every thing.

By the way, if you buy brewers hops rhizomes there bound to be female because the hop has to have bells ( has to be female ) and those bells have to be seedless to be useful for brewing.

Richters sells only plants for named cultivars. Conrad explains why seeds do not come true. If you want seeds, they have them as well. Germination can be a bit tricky.
