I need an affordable crop I can overseed over areas we cleaned in our yard. Its late in the year in our area (zone 8a) for rye. It will sprout and hold but I'd love to overseed with a couple different species, because ts only a temp solution until we can get more earthworks done. I wish there was a Hozer type mix on the market.

My Signature for the last few years was "just spinning wheels," but after our PDC at Pauls Place this summer I feel like we are finally catching traction. Hope to be threading some more. got a roof on our house, swales dug, and finally starting to work on our plan in more details.

I was just bitchin' to Skagit Farmers supply about that. The seed mix lack. I gotta call their management or something I guess though since none of the folks at the store have any real power. And most of them are only knowledgeable about horses. BAH!!

I've gotten some monster clovers. It's pretty good. But kinda hard to get rid of once you have it.

What are you looking to accomplish with you're cover crop?

Oats, field (cow) peas, wheat, barley make some good combinations.

If you can find oats or peas or a combo locally, that will save you some shipping.

Another place you might score is for deer fodder/seed mixes. Check the outdoor/hunting type stores. If they don't carry it, they should know who does.

I love me some clovers just to late in the season to invest in them now. Kinda the same issue with rye, oats, and what not. I was thinking about peas but with my hard clay wasn't sure broadcast seeding would be effective. Just playing with ideas. We did some clean up and a buddy roughed up the yard pretty good.
