This season I'm experimenting with stacking annual crops in my veggie garden, similar to how food forests utilize the various layers.
I'm going to grow climbing peas on tall trellises similar to this:
I'll plant the seeds less densely than what the packet recommends, with the idea that some sun will penetrate the
canopy. The question is, what is a suitable crop that can grow in a shady place like inside the A frame?
I read that lettuce will do the job, but are there other alternatives? Spinach simply bolts here in the summer and I'm wondering if it might do better as an under-story crop. What about Bok Choi?
