How to stay legionella-free

Hi, I don't have a particular greywater design in mind, but have been reading up in anticipation of a future dwelling on my land, which will probably start out as an agricultural building with kitchen and toilet block, likely fed by municipal agricultural water (from the mountains without any treatment). Grey water from the sinks and possibly urine will go to irrigation as water is very scarce round here.

Our temperatures are usually in the range of 20C - 40C, and I've read that legionella thrive in the top end of this range. If I put in a system of pond(s), reed bed(s) and storage tank(s), is legionella something I need to worry about, and if so how do I ensure it's not a problem. Thanks.

So different systems for different locations . I have to second Tyler's comments on trying to 'save' greywater . Todays High efficiency washers

quickly develop a 'sour greywater smell' so that I prefer not to use them . Better to try and save rainwater .

Now about Legionnaires Disease, the germ is everywhere and needs several minutes exposure to temps in the 55ºç range.to kill it. Here the good

news is that water needs to become aerosolized which means you are taking a shower and breath the bugs in. While it is possible to have

legionaries disease germs in your rain barrels, It is most unlikely that you will ever be aerosolizing your grey water and breathing it in.

Sunlight especially Uv rays really knock back the surface populations -as always use common sense and good judgement

I'm trying to green the desert. My mind can see a wetland here so I will make it happen :p
