A thousand miles of Mustangin by Ben K. Green.

Ben tells of getting Mustang bit on the right hand while trying to put a halter on a fresh caught Mustang mare .. infection .. red lines .. being told to go three hours ride to a white house. He went and a little bent over lady looked at the hand and asked him if he had flour and yeast .. he said flour and sourdough .. she said go get it.

She took an old glass goblet with a broken stem and made a light soupy dough and put the goblet upside down on a rock in the sun and had the bottom and some of the inside covered with the light dough .. the edge sealed.

She said to wait three days .. he danced around three days and she took the black mold inside and smeared it on the three black areas of his baseball sized swollen hand .. she said we will do this again at sun down.

Three days later she started over again but it was much better and in a weeks time scabbed over and he was using it as she had told him to do. He figured out much later she had used the same thing as natural penicillin on him ..

They were two hundred miles below New Mexico and Arizona 1932 .. Yaqui Indian territory .. old Mexico.

Same book .. biscuit .. flour in a cloth flour sack .. roll the sides down and pour in the right amount of water for the amount of dough you needed and the altitude .. into a hole in the flour .. mix in some salt and baking powder .. lift out the wad and put it in a warm dutch oven and let rise and cook .. very little bits to throw out of the sack of flour and no clean up.

Rattle snake bite .. take a wad of sharp pointed desert quills .. jagged edges and wrap with a cloth to not get stuck .. make all the points even and tie it .. jab the bite mark and swelling .. green ooze .. swelling goes down and you don't die.
