There is also an American crocodile. It is more rare than the common alligator. They hold their bodies further from the ground and can make a very quick run even on a very muddy surface. Many pets and a few children have been taken by them.

We visited Florida when my daughter was almost 3. I was very cautious, expecially around brackish water, where these crocs live.
