I heard in a podcast a while back that certain plants prefer a more fungal soil environment and some a more bacterial-dominant soil environment.  I understand that trees prefer a more fungal environment, but I was wondering if anyone here knows which plants (more particularly which annual vegetables/herbs) prefer which environment, or if someone could point me to a good online resource for this information?

Thanks!

I am very interested in hearing the answers to this.  Personally, I'm not convinced that garden plants prefer bacteria dominated soil as opposed to fungally dominated soil, but it may be that I just haven't seen the right evidence.  Good question.

Here's a webpage which explores how different plant communities prefer different ratios of fungi to bacteria:  http://sheldonfrith.com/2015/09/08/infographic-a-guide-to-ecological-companion-planting-in-temperate-climates/

Assuming his information is true, what effect does that have on us (the collective us) and various guilds that mix plants from all of those groups?

Oh, wow!  Thanks, Tyler. This was very helpful. Apparently the guy also has a spreadsheet with this info. that he's willing to e-mail upon request.  Don't mind if I do!
