Paul just sent me a link to this video - this couple has worked with what the landscape had to offer when they bought the property to create a lush, multi-story permaculture food forest. It's really incredible to see the diversity they've allowed to flourish here, and how the plants are adapting and growing into these symbiotic relationships.
Well worth the watch. I really like the complexity of it, and the idea of stopping oneself when one wants to interfere and thinking, that maybe what is happening is actually a good thing. Letting the wild in. I love it.

Interesting. Didn't know that someone had done the work of collecting together ~40 varieties of gooseberry in NZ. I've got 8 I think, plus worchesterberry.
There was a Country Calendar episode on television here a few years ago that did a better job of covering the food forest, and their operation in it's entirety. I'm still got it recorded on disk I think.

If you can post that here for us to view, I, for one, would be very grateful. I would love to correspond with these people. There project is really incredible.

If I see it around, I'll post a link. New Zealander's might be able to access it on tvnz online, but it's geo-restricted elsewhere.

Thanks for posting this video. It is good stuff. As an interesting side note, in Australia, the cabbage tree palms have edible heads, but of course that would interfere with the nesting spots for the birds in that particular Food Forest. The Aboriginals used to plant the palms up and down the east coast along waterways.
