Hi!

I'm thinking of getting some people together and planning an intentional community.  The site that I have in mind is zoned for single family homes but they make exemptions for duplexes.  However, the existing buildings are a monastery with 53 bedrooms.  My idea is to use it as a combined living/work space for work-at-home people.

The real estate agent told me not to give up, and to come back when I've gathered a group of people, incorporated as a nonprofit, and raised funds.  Then talk to the county about zoning.  But I'm hesitant to get people's hopes up and take their money in case things don't go well with the county.

Here are some rudimentary pages that describe my idea:  https://sites.google.com/site/cottageindustrycoop/

What would you advise?

Thanks!

Have you studied much about how to make a successful intentional community?  My advice would be to read "Creating a Life Together" by Diana Leafe Christian.  I think Diana sometimes posts on this board.  I admire her book tremendously and think it is required reading for anyone considering creating or joining an intentional community.

Ludi,  thanks for the recommendation.  I'm all ears when it comes to reading material.  I have that on my bookmooch wishlist.

I'm open to any critiques of my idea as well
