Just shared a link to another story covering this study in a forest garden thread. It's on one hand so extraordinary, but on the other pretty unsurprising.

It makes me think about how much we must be completely ignorant to, from alternative forms of plant domestication throughout the world. Europeans could at least recognize chinampas, for example, as a food growing system because it was obviously constructed, like their fields. I wonder what other systems were present, though, that they weren't able to recognize. I wonder what was swept away in history before anyone bothered to record its existence. So much knowledge lost, and now we're just starting to experiment to recreate it....
