How to cuddle with an elephant seal

Amazing! Not sure how smart it is, but truly amazing.

It's a bored baby, waiting for mom to come back from a fishing trip. Would be wise to keep an eye out for her.

All I can think is FISHBREATH!

Elephant seal bulls weigh around 3 tons, the cows weigh about half that much.

Ah ha! That explains a lot about the whole wild critter/human dynamic going on. It is extremely cute in appearance and actions, but yeah, even the baby could inadvertently put a hurt on her and I'll bet the 3000 lb. momma would not be at all amused by that scene. 

All you left coasters, once in your life you should see elephant seals up close. Ano Nuevo State Park in California, north of Santa Cruz, is the place, I believe the best time is winter, but you can contact the Park for the best info. It's been years, and I don't remember the month I went, but I vividly remember how close they will allow you to approach - they don't get excited about much of anything except sex - certainly no puny human looks threatening to them.

I saw one once, at first I thought it was a whale!
