Transplanting red maple and Carolina allspice

I have asked too many questions, lately.  So, will try to make this last one, for a bit.  Expanding our little woodland.  Have a maple and a allspice crammed up next to an air conditioning unit.  I have proper locations chosen.  The maple is 6 ft.  The allspice is about 14 or 15 ft.  I never transplanted larger trees. I am 7a.  When is the best time to transplant, this fall?  Any other advice would be wonderful, as well.  Thank you, so much.

I have never transplanted a tree as big as 14 feet, but I have had the best luck transplanting trees when they are dormant, whenever that is for your location.  I have done trees 6 feet quite a few times and have had very good luck with it as long as they are dormant.You can prune the tree pretty heavily at the same time.  That will give the tree more chance to build roots rather than immediately trying to grow.

Thank you, Todd.  I wonder how dormant they should be.  We usually have frost midoctober but I know I can't wait too long.  Yes, I am daunted by the 14 ft.  Yes, pruning that one would be good idea.  I know so little about trees.  I am mainly a plant person up until now.  Yet, am glad to be learning.

Dormant just means sometime between leaf fall and budding out. Of course, we want some time for the roots to roam the new location, before bud break. Where I am in TN the ground only freezes for a day or two at a time. I'd try it a week or two after the leaves fall. If life happens, as soon as you can after that.
