Hello!

My partner and I are going to be looking for a new home in the fall and we'd like it to be an existing intentional community.  I've been searching through the ic.org website and contacting people, but I was just wondering if any of you might know of other opportunities or places to look.

What we're looking for is a frugal, sustainable situation that is not located in an area that's especially vulnerable to natural disasters.  We currently live in the Pacific Northwest, where we're constantly being warned about the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

We'd like to find either a farming community that has close ties to an urban community or vice versa.  We don't really have $$ to speak of, so we'd need a situaion where we could work in exchange for food and housing and/or where I could run my small at-home business.  I make cloth menstrual pads and sell them on my website and at the local farmers market.

My only farm experience is that I picked berries every summer from age 9 to 18 and loved it.  We don't have any permaculture experience but we are willing to learn and work hard.

We're in our 30s and we have two neutered male cats, one of whom is a senior.

Thanks!

This is just to add that we both love to cook and I can play the piano if people are interested in that.  I could also teach piano lessons to any curious beginners.

I have been looking through the internet for similar, looking for communities/ecovillages and so-forth.

WWOOF and this http://www.workaway.info/ are so far the best I have found, though there are probably plenty of others too.

my family and friends are in the process of developing an intentional community at our friend and boss' organic farm in pulaski ny. there are a few in the central ny area i know of some down by ithaca and one in adams called woodhenge, if you're set on and already existing community. if you're interested in pursuing the creation of one, please let me know. there is always a need for farm hands.  One thing i can say for this area is although the winters are harsh, there aren't any other pressing extremes here...weather is relatively consistant

http://directory.ic.org/records/communes.php

this site has been somewhat helpful, but doesn't get updated often. we found eastwind in missouri, an egalitarian community that makes nut butters.mmmmm... which has been around since the 70's
