I suppose this isn't so helpful to people who don't go outdoors in the winter, and in the cold there's not so much reason to since you can't garden here, but it may be useful information.

My socks are black, form-fitting, and on my extremeties--this is why it felt so good.  I thought I'd sat in a warm spot for some reason.

I only know htis because I like to eat my breakfast outside in the sun on the steps in my socks.  With shoes on it wouldn't be as noticeable.

If I were to wrap my head in a black hat or my arms and legs, that would have the same warming effect.

My pants--khaki--didn't warm me noticeably at all, nor the direct sun on my hands.  my dark-blue but thick winter coat.

The color really has that much of an impact, and the direct contact with skin.

A shout out to Erica Wisner who helped me appreciate more accurately the impact of the great nuclear reactor in the sky.

Yes, it works...this is why I've never understood black t-shirts in the summer...a fashion statement maybe but so so hot!

Our youngest son has almost black really thick hair and has shaved his head every summer since high school because of how hot it makes his head.

I have one black t-shirt that I wear only on cloudy days to work out doors...even black shoes will warm my feet too much in sunny summer weather.

These are not the droids you are looking for. Perhaps I can interest you in a tiny ad?
