After listening to Episode-629- Paul Wheaton on the Elimination of Irrigation (http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/elimination-of-irrigation), this is the picture I get in my mind:
1. Create as many edges as I can, be they water, PH, temperature, wind, shade, etc. Use swales and other techniques to create the edges.
2. Create a mixed bag of every seed I can find. Buying seeds in bulk may make this plausible.
3. Broadcast the seeds across the land.
4. Let the seeds sort it out.

Does that sound about right?

thats what i do, it works out great. dont just throw trees out there though. imo they are better placed in certain spots for best results, and they also help create edges/diversity.

i do this

1. Create as much diversity as I can, be they water, PH, temperature, wind, shade, etc.
2. Create a mixed bag of every seed I can find. Buying seeds in bulk may make this plausible.
3. Broadcast the seeds across the land.
4. Let the seeds sort it out.
